Community Engagement Programs for Adults with Disabilities in Iowa
Discover how AmeriServe creates inclusive community engagement opportunities for adults with disabilities in Council Bluffs, Clarinda, and Shenandoah.
At AmeriServe, we believe that every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and connected. One of the most powerful ways we create that sense of belonging is through community engagement—helping the individuals we support build relationships, contribute to their communities, and experience joy through meaningful activities.
Whether it’s volunteering at a local food pantry or enjoying a cookout with friends, our clients aren’t just present in their communities—they’re active participants who make a real impact.
Community Integration Through Day Hab
Our Day Habilitation Services are specifically designed to promote socialization, personal development, and community involvement. With three Day Hab centers in Council Bluffs and a newly opened center in Clarinda, we meet individuals where they are—matching them with the pace, structure, and support that fits their goals.
Each center offers:
-
Personalized support based on activity level and preference
-
Small staff-to-client ratios for more meaningful interactions
-
Access to daily activities like volunteering, crafts, and outings
-
Encouragement to make friends, learn new skills, and stay engaged
Clients can choose full-time or part-time attendance, with Day Hab running Monday through Thursday, 9 AM–3 PM & Friday 9 AM–2 PM.
Volunteer Partnerships That Foster Purpose
We believe in giving back. That’s why we partner with local organizations to give our clients the chance to participate in impactful volunteer work. These experiences foster self-worth and connection:
-
Meals on Wheels
-
Trail Blazers Food Bank
-

-

-
Impact Hill
Volunteering isn’t just about service—it’s about building pride, routine, and community roots.
Companywide Events That Celebrate Inclusion
Throughout the year, we host quarterly events for all clients and staff. These moments celebrate fun, friendship, and shared experiences:
-
Talent shows

They’re more than events—they’re opportunities to create lifelong memories and deepen the sense of family we build at AmeriServe.
