Promoting a culture of respect, dignity, and accountability for adults with disabilities.

At AmeriServe, our commitment to protecting the privacy, dignity, and rights of the individuals we serve is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why our May Continuing Education classes will focus on two vital topics: Confidentiality and Rights Restrictions. These subjects are part of our Annually Required Training, ensuring every team member remains informed, aligned, and empowered to provide the highest quality care.

Why This Training Matters

In our work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, understanding and applying the principles of confidentiality and rights protection is more than just a requirement—it’s a reflection of our values. Whether supporting individuals in our 24-hour residential services, Day Hab programs, or less than 24-hour supports, AmeriServe staff are expected to safeguard private information and uphold the rights of every individual we support.

This year’s training is designed to go beyond policy review and dive into the “why” behind these topics. We’ll discuss:

  • What confidentiality means in disability services, including HIPAA basics, protected health information, and real-life scenarios.

  • The difference between support and restriction, and how to recognize when a rights restriction may be present.

  • How to advocate for clients when restrictions are necessary for health or safety—and how to ensure those restrictions are properly documented, approved, and revisited regularly.

Interactive, Engaging, and Relevant

To ensure team members can fully engage and apply this knowledge, the session will include group discussions, real-world examples, and time to ask questions. The training is designed to be informative and practical, helping staff apply what they learn directly to their roles.

By enhancing our understanding of confidentiality and rights restrictions, we ensure that AmeriServe remains a provider where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered—and where families and guardians know they can trust our team.

A Culture of Accountability and Compassion

This annual training is a reflection of the culture we’ve built at AmeriServe—one that values education, ethical practice, and continual growth. We’re proud of our staff for embracing these responsibilities and remaining committed to the highest standards of care.
